Matthew Wojtaszek, 2014 All-American of the Year from the All-American Town of Niles

At Operation Ozarks, its 68th Annual Convention, the 82nd Airborne Division Association honored Niles Veteran Matthew Wojtaszek as its All American-of the Year. The conference was held August 20 to 23rd in Springfield, Missouri. Harold Schroeder, the National President, presented the award to Mr. Wojtaszek on August 23, 2014 at the National Airborne Day Banquet.

Chance meeting of WWII 82nd Airborne Paratroopers

is described in today's New York Times on p A13, in the article entitled “World War II Memories and an Instant Connection, Chance Meeting of Two D-Day Glider Pilots ." It recounts the recent meeting in an hospital surgery of Benjamin Klein and Victor Allegretti .

Niles's Matthew Wojtaszek also served in the 82nd Airborne and is a participant in the Veterans History Project through the library. His transcript can be read and heard via the library's website at http://www.nileslibrary.org/vhp/.
