The Niles-Maine District Public Library, formerly the Niles Public Library, Niles, IL, is a founding partner in the national effort of the Library of Congress to collect, preserve, and make accessible the personal accounts of America's soldiers so that future generations may hear directly from the veterans and better understand the realities of war.
The Niles team, composed of Kate Wolicki, Neil O'Shea, Cynthia Olive, Maryellen Essig, Mark O'Brien, and later joined by former Head Cataloger, Joel Hahn, Information Technology Services Officer, and Rich Wozniczka, began the local project in March of 2005. Judy McNulty, Business Services Librarian, joined the team in 2010 and Cecilia Cyngar, Audio-Visual and Travel Librarian in 2019.
The accompanying blog displays the cover pages of the interview booklets, related library events, relevant news items, and lists of books providing context for the project. The interviews can be read, heard and searched via the library's web site.
The Niles-Maine District Library is located at 6960 W. Oakton St., Niles, IL and the telephone is 847-663-1234.
