Eagle Scout Veterans Project at Niles Public Library

Eagle candidates, Danny Tagliere and Trevor Glancy of Troop 175, St. John Brebeuf Parish,
are shown below refurbishing the benches for the Veterans Walkway outside the entrance to the Niles Public Library in time for Wednesday's Veterans  History Project Breakfast. Each bench commemorates the sacrifices made in the major conflicts of the United States.

Finding Illinois's Last Battlefield, Niles Library, October 4, 2pm

James Meierhoff, historical archaeologist,  presents an illustrated lecture on the Kellogg's Grove site in Stephenson County and scene of the last skirmish in Illinois of the Black Hawk War of 1832.

Citizen-soldier Abraham Lincoln arrived as a militiaman on the day after the June 25th battle.

Veterans Information Session at Niles Library, Tuesday, October 13, 9 am

James Harkins,  Evanston Vet Center Outreach Specialist, will provide  information  and answer questions from veterans about disability claims, medical care, employment assistance and other issues on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at the Niles Public Library, 6960 W. Oakton St.

 Mr. Harkins is a Gulf War vet and will visit the library on the 2^nd Tuesday of every month from 9am to noon. Veterans will be able to meet him in the 1st floor Commons Area.

Pillars of Honor Comes to Niles on Saturday, September 19

WWII Vet Irv Abramson and wife Doris celebrate their 68th!

Monday's Chicago Tribune on page 5 of Section 4, the Arts-Entertainment section, featured this photograph and happy announcement in the CELEBRATIONS Section honoring the couple's achievement.

Irv was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and his very interesting memoir of service can be read and heard via the library's website  and then by clicking on the World War II Europe  tab on the left.
