Upcoming Thursday Trips to Midwest Veterans Closet in North Chicago

The Evanston Vet Center at 1901 Howard St, Evanston, IL 60202,  (847) 332-1019,
 has announced a  partnership with the Closet, located at 2323 Green Bay Rd, North Chicago, IL 60064, (847) 354-2108 whereby every Thursday at 11:15am, as of March 22, a van will leave the Center to visit the Closet. This program make it easier for veterans in need to obtain essentials. The newly released flyer appears below.

Locating U S Military Records

Genealogy educator and tech guru, Dick Eastman, reported in his blog today a valuable new publication from the estimable Congressional Research Service - Military Service Records, Awards, and Unit Histories: A Guide to Locating Sources by Mese F. DeBruyne and Barbara Salazar Torreon.

Mr. Kenneth Radnitzer R. I. P.

Last Friday's issue of the Chicago Tribune, January 5, 2018, carried the death notice for a life-time member of the Greatest Generation -  Mr. Kenneth Radnitzer  who participated in the  national Veterans History Project through the Niles-Maine District Library.

Mr. Radnitzer served in the Marines during World War II, winning a Silver Star. He fought in the Solomon Islands and spent 82 days on Okinawa.  His 2nd Battalion, 5th Regiment also served in China. He also participated in the Korean Army, serving in the US Army, and winning a Bronze Medal.

His interview, the memoir of a citizen-soldier,  can be read and heard via the library's website.
